Dr. Freedom Cheteni

STEM Teacher

Classes taught: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences

My passion for education and tutoring began during my university years when I first engaged in peer tutoring. The joy of sharing knowledge and the gratification of witnessing others' learning breakthroughs captivated me. This experience illuminated the powerful impact education has on individual lives and communities, leading me to pursue tutoring as a way to contribute positively to others' educational journeys.

I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, and I completed my primary and secondary education there before moving to the United States for my higher education. I received my bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Colorado College and later earned master's degrees in molecular biology, public health, and education. Reflecting on my educational career, the importance of adaptability and continuous learning stands out. These are the values I now strive to instill in my students as an educator.

Over the past ten years, I have held various roles in education, ranging from being an educator at Mountain View Los Altos High School District to being an academic coach for students’ customized education plans. Each position has enriched my skills in empowering students through customized learning experiences, executive functioning skills, and curriculum design. These experiences have taught me the value of patience, adaptability, and personalized teaching approaches, which are essential in the diverse field of education.

My tutoring philosophy centers on the idea that every student is unique, requiring a tailored approach to learning. In one-on-one sessions, I focus on understanding each student's learning style and adapting my teaching methods accordingly. I often employ tools tailored to the students personal circumstance, using research based methods to help students find meaning in the learning process and interactive activities to engage and challenge my students to understand concepts. Addressing common problems students encounter academically and in their soft skills has been a key part of my success as a tutor.

Apart from tutoring, I enjoy working on research projects, traveling, volunteering at animal sanctuaries, and spending time at the beach.
